Abstract

Maternal health is a vital component of public health, and it can impact a mother as well as a child. This research aims to discuss the value of structured nursing services to improve maternal health, with a focus on prenatal monitoring and postnatal support. This paper offers a review of existing models of maternal care, clarifies the issues of maternal care within the existing health care systems, and proposes a pathway to improved maternal health, using structured, evidence-based nursing practice and care plan. This study will consider both prenatal care and postnatal care, so that the importance of structured nursing services can be identified for the purposes of addressing the reduction of morbidity and mortality from the maternal health perspective. Structured nursing services use advanced monitoring technologies, in conjunction with health education and emotional support (McNaughton et al., 2023), which can provide a means of considerable improvement in care for the mothers and for the associated newborn. The proposed models of nursing services are crucial to improvement in the quality of maternal health care, maternal health and wellness, and health outcomes for mothers and babies.
